ART STATEMENT

Dreams when they seem to be...they are

My recent body of work explores what lives beneath the surface. I am interested in imagining what grows in secluded environments, be it wetlands, forests, ice formations or microscopic views of nature and the human body. Smaller life forms that we cannot see at first glance are of particular interest to me, as are the movements, lights and shadows that occur in these habitats. Through my work, I aim to recreate and capture a moment in time of these real and imaginary worlds.

It is precisely these elusive habitats that interest me because they serve as a metaphor for urban life: from the outside our private universes remain hidden, superficially floating, and only occasionally do we reveal the richness and energy below.

Recently, I started looking at microscopic images of nature and the human body and from there I found myself studying the visual patterns and dynamics of both cancerous and healthy cells. As a visual artist it has been fascinating to see how something so microscopic and so destructive to our bodies could be visually so appealing. As a result, the concept of micro and macro has become important in my creative process, exploring the idea of enlarging a microscopic geography to create a new visually rich and dynamic habitat.

My goal is to create images with the movement, liveliness and depth of what I imagine is the life beneath the surface.
